Some of the opportunities include:
Meals on Wheels: start at our kitchen/Aging and Nutrition Services with a tour; 4915 E. 52nd Ave. Commerce City
- No cost except the gas your employees would spend on a route
- Unlimited volunteers (you would split into teams to deliver)
- Delivering meals to seniors with food insecurities
- Approx 2 hours in the morning, usually 8:30-10:30-ish
- Available Monday-Saturday
VOA Mission- 2877 Lawrence St. (a day shelter for the homeless)
- Up to 8 volunteers
- Prepping and serving lunch to the homeless, working in clothing room, sorting donations, cleaning, and talking with clients, organizing storage rooms
- 10:00a-12:30pm for lunch service
- Available Monday-Friday or Sundays at 11:00am-1:30pm
Host BINGO: at our senior residence apartments: Sunset Park, 1865 Larimer Street in Denver OR at Montbello Manor/Meadows at Montbello 4355 Carson St.
- We ask the volunteer group to purchase the snacks, water, and prizes (enough for 20 games and approx. 15 people)
- 4-6 volunteers
- Calling the Bingo numbers, verifying the Bingo winning numbers, giving prizes, playing Bingo with the residents
- Available Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-3:00pm (also available on weekends at either Montbello property)
Veteran Service Center- 1247 Santa Fe, Denver
- Make hygiene kits, no-sew blankets for homeless veterans, and get a tour of Veteran Services Center
- We ask the volunteer group to purchase hygiene kit items IE: travel size toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrush, comb, etc. (approx. cost is $300 for 100 hygiene kits)
- Up to 15 volunteers
- 2 hours, usually 10am-noon-ish, but we’re flexible; we could do earlier or the afternoon
- Available Monday-Friday
- OR
- Bring lunch in and serve the homeless veterans. Pizza, soup, pasta, or whatever you would like that would be fairly easy to serve. We don’t have an oven at the VSC but there is a microwave. You’d need to be there at 11:00am with lunch service starting at 11:30. We ask the volunteer group to stay an extra hour to help sort donations, so you’d be done by 1:30-ish
Yard Angels-the addresses vary
- Clean up a yard for a senior or veteran
- Keeps them safe and usually saves the cost of a citation/fine from the city where they live
- Morning, because of afternoon heat, but we are flexible
- 2-3 hours, depending on your team’s desire
- Our Yard Angels coordinator, Jenn Chokey at jchockey@voacolorado.org doesn’t mind working on weekends, so whatever works best for your team
