Allison Delozier Awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Denver Regional Council of Governments

Recognized for Her Dedication to Fighting Food Insecurity Among Colorado’s Seniors

DENVER (Sept. 17, 2024) – It was announced today that Allison DeLozier, VOA Colorado’s associate director of Aging Nutrition Services, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG).

The award recognizes, honors, and thanks people who have given their time, talent, and skills to the Denver region, its communities, and various regional programs and activities. DeLozier was honored for her hard work and dedication to the many seniors of the Adams County Senior HUB Meals on Wheels program.

VOA Colorado’s Aging Nutrition Services (ANS) serves over 2,800 seniors monthly through the Meals on Wheels program and the Congregate Dining Centers, ensuring seniors receive nutritious meals that support their health.

“We cannot think of anyone who better exemplifies what it means to care for those in our community than Allison,” said Dave Schunk, president and CEO of VOA Colorado. “She brings empathy and compassion to everything she does and is a wonderful member of our team, a special person, and a worthy recipient of this award.”

Jess Nix, VOA’s City Harvest and Handyman program manager, added, “A leader is made of many different attributes. One of the biggest is heart. Allison has demonstrated heart, dedication, and passion for the staff and clients of The Meal on Wheels and is a great representation of what we stand. We are blessed and honored to have her as a part of the Volunteers of America Colorado team.”

DeLozier, who has worked for VOA Colorado since 2014, said, “In Colorado, nearly 12% of older adults face food insecurity. VOA’s programs offer more than meals—they provide crucial social interaction and community. The work we do is so important, and to be honored with this award is humbling.”
